Team carting with two Tervs at Wags For Wishes 2007

How I Got Started.....

In January of 2007 I went out to take photos for a friend of her Rottweiler carting. It was for her website. At the time I had no intention of carting. When I go places I always have at least one dog as my "ride along" dog. On that particular day I had my old girl Shine who had just celebrated her 10th birthday.

After taking photos my friend and the gal who was getting her started convinced me to try Shine. I'll admit it didn't take much arm twisting at all. I love doing things with my dogs and this sure looked like something that would be just plain fun!

In a couple of short sessions with a borrowed cart and harness Shine had taken to it like a seasoned pro and we were having the time of our lives. It was something new for both of us. For me it was really great to be a beginner in something again, for Shine it was something new and she strutted around as "the chosen one"!

Shine and I entered our first carting test in February 2007. The test was sponsored by the American Rottweiler Club (ARC) who allow other breeds to compete in their tests. Our judge was a wonderful woman from AZ who put us at ease and watched us go through the course. I felt like I had two left feet (ok techinically I've got one, Shine's got two - no matter I was a rookie with a capital R!).

Shine was absolutely marvelous, it's a wonder she put up with me! We made it through the entire course without a
problem. When it came to the last element - long down in cart we lost out. Shine, who had been off for two weeks prior because of surgery, stood up. Sigh - we only had 20 seconds left. OH well, we both had fun. At that point - the bug bit and carting became our new sport.

Two months later I bought our first cart and harnesses and 7 months since that first day all of my four Tervs are
carting. The two older ones, Shine and Brill also work as a team together and can even drive - although not with much precision. We can often be seen early in the morning on weekends carting in vineyards across the street from our house.
